Services
Initial Assessment, Gait Analysis, and Massage
The initial assessment includes a discussion with you, the owner, of the current overall health of your dog, current activity level, medical conditions and medications he or she is currently taking. We will go over your goals for the session and if additional sessions are recommended. I will watch your dog walk, trot, and run (if possible) to analyze if he or she is putting more or less pressure on any particular limb. This will give me an idea of where I should begin. I will then massage your pup, carefully palpating the muscles of the face, neck, back, tail and limbs; paying close attention to any muscles that seem painful. Finally, I will go over the muscles that seemed in particular need of attention and discuss what you can do to continue the good we started!
Session Lengths to Fit Your Pet's Needs
Based upon the initial assessment, we can discuss how often and how long each massage should be. Each session will include a brief pre-session discussion of any changes to your dog's health, the massage, and post-session discussion of the massage.
Sporting and Hunting Dogs
Dogs that are working hard need special attention to their health and wellbeing. Massage can help an athletic dog recover faster and perform better. Massage helps to increase circulation, reduce muscle spasm, relieve tension, increase muscle tone, and increase range of motion.
Pregnancy and Puppy Massage
Just like in humans, massage during pregnancy can reduce discomfort, improve circulation, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve oxygenation of soft tissues and muscles.
Puppies can benefit from massage too. Massage can help puppies get used to being touched in sensitive areas like paws and ears. It also gets them used to being calm and relaxed.
End of Life Massage
Saying goodbye is never easy. But when the time comes, massage prior to humane euthanasia can relax your dog and provide an overall feeling of wellbeing to help them cross the rainbow bridge a little easier.
Reiki Therapy
Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing used to encourage the body to heal itself. It can be used for both emotional and physical ailments and is especially useful when the pet is not comfortable with traditional massage techniques.
Nail Trims
Proper nail length is very important to your pet’s ability to walk properly. If your dog is in need of a pedicure, I will trim his or her nails either before or after any massage.
Medication Assistance
If your dog has been put on a medication by your veterinarian and you’re having a tough time getting your dog to take it, I can help. I can give you instruction on how to give the medication (oral, topical, or injectable), help you give it, or give it for you.
About the Process
The Initial Session
The 90 minute first session is designed to give me the opportunity to get to know your dog, what her particular needs are, what your expectations are, and to give you some simple massage techniques to do at home between sessions. Massage is most beneficial when it’s performed regularly. This is why I almost always recommend setting up a regular schedule for sessions every other week or monthly depending on your dog and your schedule.
Session Lengths to Fit Your Pet’s Needs
If you decide to schedule regular sessions, I will recommend a specific length of time best suited to your dog based on her size and attention span. If regular sessions aren’t an option for you, I can also recommend a few YouTube videos to watch so you can continue to massage your dog at home.
Many insurance packages are covering alternative medicine, acupuncture, chiropractic, and massage. Be sure to check with your dog’s insurance to see if massage is covered.
